Goddess Series

Artwork by: Cecelia Ivy of Artistic Chaos Studio

My motivation for creating this series is based on my ethnic background. Being of German, Honduran, Scottish, Cherokee, and African descent I often wondered about the mythologies of my heritage. There were times I pondered about why my African American relatives (my father's side of the family) played so much into the Christian God, surely they know our ancestors did not believe in this? That there were stories, lore, and legends from deep in Africa and artwork, rituals, and sacred clothing passed down from generations of Cherokee tribes where my grandmother was born in Murfreesboro Tennessee. My grandfather from that side was straight from Honduras. We do not know his name before he passed through Ellis Island so I have no way of tracing my ancestors. He died of a heart attack when my father was only five years old on Bear Mountain near New York City on a hunting trip. I have not had the pleasure of knowing either of my natural grandfathers as my maternal grandfather left my grandmother with three daughters to start a new family around Westfield, NY. This side of the family is German and Scottish. Both of my grandmothers passed in the early ‘90s and my mother passed in 2012 which makes it terribly hard to retrace my family, let alone these stories.
