Uncaptured

Written by Ryan Morrow

Hidden in plain sight
veiled only by a thin veneer
of disbelief

present but immeasurable
shifting through realm
and substance

weaving into consciousness
as a needle through fabric
flickering into perspectives
like a ghastly daydream

glimmering on the perimeters
flying effortlessly between raindrops
flashing within
the radiant sunlight

They dance between a wish
a promise and a lie
they whisper suggestions
then howl out commands
they reflect the moonlight
into desperate hearts

Butterflies gather around
an unseen leader
dandelion seeds flock and cluster
to an invisible core

Science with all its prestige
power and persistence
cannot hope to grasp
this effervescent truth
this tiniest of granules
like the proverbial sands of time

A matter undescribed
an energy ephemeral
a pulsing thing
that blinks in and out of existence

Always there
however infinitesimal
a nudging
a tilting
a subtle sway in a new direction

Always there
uncaptured
altering
mutating
a kiss delivered by the wind

Call them what you will
but they just might be the reason
you change your mind
